RECITAL HANDBOOK

INTRODUCTION FOR ELECTRIC YOUTH EXTREME

This handbook is your key to a smooth recital experience. It should be able to answer your questions, and inform you of what is required from all students and families.
The recital will be a rewarding experience for all of our students. If this is your student’s first year at the Electric Youth Dance Company, we encourage the entire family to approach this milestone with support and enthusiasm. The benefits of performing in front of a live audience and participating in the artistic process of choreography, rehearsals, and teamwork are in numerous. Most important, each student is given the opportunity to be someone special someone who has worked with diligence, determination, and heart to achieve her goals.
Performing on stage builds confidence and character; it gives one a sense of accomplishments and pride. These are qualities we want to see our children attain. The recital experience will help a child in other aspects of their personal lives at school, church, sports activities, and much more.

RECITAL FEE
Your $35.00 (per family (which means sisters and brothers, not cousins) recital fee includes entrance fees for you, your family, and friends. This must be paid by June 19th. All dancers who have not paid by June 19th will be unable to participate in the dance recital. This fee goes towards the rental of the auditorium, tech fees and Janitor fees for our Dress Rehearsal and Recital. This way you can invite whoever you would like and they do not need to pay a fee to watch your children dance.

DRESS REHEARSAL (Thursday, JUNE 19th)

The Dress Rehearsal is held at Northridge High School. All classes will have stage time in which they will practice their routine with full costume, performance lights and music. Each class has only 10 minutes on the stage so please do not be late! The girls will be excused after they have practiced on the stage and gone through the finale. Please do not be late. (If you are on the Competition Team please plan on staying there until 8:00 except my “minis” you will be excused at 7:15. (Schedule is posted on a separate post)
When you get there come into the auditorium and sit with your class. I need everyone to stay in the auditorium!!  Parents are welcome to stay however please do not let other children run around and please keep quiet, sometimes the parents are louder than the girls.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOS
I have hired a professional video-ographer to video our recital. This is a professional quality keepsake that your family will enjoy for years! You can either get a DVD or a USB jump drive. DVD is usual definition and USB drive is at full high definition quality. The cost for either one is $27.00. You will be able to order your copy at the rehearsal.

RECITAL MON. JUNE 23rd
The performance will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. All students must arrive and meet in the back hallway at 6:00 p.m. sharp all ready to perform!!
Students should use the restroom before their parents drop them off. I have girls that will be there to help me with all of my little girl’s classes, so moms do not have to stay backstage. (unless they have a costume change)
We will warm up and then get lined up for our show to begin. After each class has performed the volunteer in charge of each class will take the girls back and start lining them up for the Finale. After the Finale, I will have all of the little ones stay on the stage and parents can pick them up.
The doors will not open until 6:00 p.m. We then ask that you do NOT reserve more than five seats per dancer. All reserved seats should be let go five minutes before the recital.

UNPAID TUITION

All tuition, recital fees, and costume balances need to be paid on or before June 19th. If your account is not current your daughter will be unable to participate in our Dance Recital.

 MAKE-UP
Make-up should be worn to performance and dress rehearsal. Eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, should be natural tones. Cheeks and lips should be pink. Competition teams should wear your competition make-up. Make-up should look natural, not heavy. If your performer does not have enough make-up on she will look washed out on stage. We want their beautiful features to be seen from a distance.

HAIR - (I will post pictures at the end of this blog describing hair styles.)

* ”ABC” - Wear black ballet or jazz shoes with no socks.  Hair in Alice and Wonderland. Have all of the hair very curly!  Bobby pin their hair piece so that it will not fall out.
* ”Stupid Cupid” - No socks, black ballet shoes. Hair in a high back pony very curly, the pony should be on the crown of their head. (Be sure that you really slick the baby hairs back so that there is no loose hair around their face) If their hair is too short to pull it all up the just pull the front ½ up. Be sure to bobby pin the hairpiece because it will not stay in with just the one clip that it came with.
* ”Schools Out”. - Tan ballet or jazz shoes. Hair in a high back pony very curly, the pony should be on the crown of their head. (Be sure that you really slick the baby hairs back so that there is no loose hair around their face) If their hair is too short to pull it all up the just pull the front ½ up. Put a regular black pony holder in and then put the rhinestone one over the top.
 * ”Surfing Safari” - No socks and black ballet shoes. Hair in Alice Wonderland very curly. Put the flower over their pony. (I am trying to get a flower to match the one in their to go on their skirts.)
* ”Tumbling class” – You will wear the Summer Practice outfits. (Except the boys, they will wear black shorts and a white t-shirt.) Most of you are in other dances so their hair will be how it is for their dance. If you are not in a dance class then pull hair up into back pony so that their hair is out of their face. No socks and they can either wear their ballet shoes or go bare foot.
* ”Ballet Class” - Pink ballet shoes, suntan tights. Hair will have to be the same as it was for your other dances. I will have white feather hair pieces for their hair.
* "Boys Hip Hop” - Wear levi's, red t-shirt, black vest and tennis shoes.
* Competition Teams – Same as you did for competition. For rehearsal we will not have time to change costumes so please wear your main costume and bring the others.
EVERYONE- Be sure to bobby pin hair pieces etc. in hair!!!
Alice Wonderland hair - Part hair right behind ears and pull up both sides into a pony at the crown of head. So the back of hair will be down but the front will be pulled out of eyes. Even if hair is short you should be able to pull up the sides. If not just curly hair. (Pink spongy curlers work best to curl hair) I prefer no bangs.

EXTREME BOUTIQUE

We will be selling our summer practice outfits at the Rehearsal. (some of you already placed your order) I will order them on the 24th so if you do not order at the dress rehearsal or recital you will not be able to get them. I am only putting in ONE order. The cost of these is $32.50 and they are very cute! If you are doing tumbling at the Recital or you already ordered them they will be here at Dress Rehearsal. We will wear these in the South Weber parade in Aug. If you are on Competition Team and you want to dance in the Parade instead of riding on the float you will need the practice outfit.

I hope this answers all of your questions. I want to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to teach your children! I truly love each and every one of them, and look forward to sharing my love for dance with them for many years.
                                                                 Love, Michele

Salt Lake Community College Competition April 26th

I want to first CONGRATULATED all of my dancers on a great competition last weekend! I am so proud of you all! We took 6 1st places, 2 3rd places and won best overall prop for our bubblegum machine :)

Here is the final line up for our competition next Sat April 26th at the Salt Lake Community College Lifetime Activity Center located at 4600 South Redwood Rd. Taylorsville, Ut. Directions to the school are as follows: 1-215 South, exit 4700 South. Turn Left. Turn Left on Redwood Rd. Turn Left on 4445 S. LAC Center is on the left.

Times listed below is the time that I need the girls in the dressing room all ready to perform!!!! This does not mean that they are in the audience watching the competition or that they are showing up and still need makeup on!!!!!! I can not stress this enough! If they need to barrow my makeup or are sharing with someone else then show up at least 30 min. before your scheduled time.

I will be handing out wristbands to all of the performers this week at dance. Same rules apply for this competition as they did for the last. All observes are charged $7.00 to get into the competition, kids 3 and under are free. Remember though, the girls did not have to pay an entrance fee for this competition :)

#34 - Settle Down - 10:50
#55 - Raining Men - 12:00
#61 - Bubblegum - 12:20
#77 - Hard Knock Life - 1:35
#112 - Getting Over You - 3:30
#131 - Monsters - 4:30
#137 - Clowns - 4:45
#143 - Move, Shake, Drop - 5:05

All ODD # face SOUTH, EVEN # face NORTH

There were still several girls that did not wear the right makeup for our last competition. You may not think that it is not very important but it really is! The makeup is part of our costume and all other Dance Directors make it mandatory that every girl buys there own kits and they charge double of what it costs. I don't care if you share with each other and I only charged you what it costs me. PLEASE, if you need a makeup kit let me know ASAP! I have to order it by Monday morning in order to get it by Friday.

I know that some of the girls have runs in their tights. If you are one of them please let me know ASAP!  I ordered some extra's but I do not have a lot, so if I need to order more I have to do so by Monday. This goes right along with the importance of makeup. Every girl has to have the same color of tights and they can not have runs in them. It is a good idea to put clear finger nail polish in their dance bag so if they do get a small run in them we can stop it with clear polish before it gets big.

It is very important that ALL of the girls at dance this next week!!!! Please let me know if you have any questions.
